Fashionable Hoboken: Summer Hair Care

Patch's Kelly Lackner collected tips from the pros for summer hair maintenance

Temperatures are starting to rise, reminding us all that summer is fast approaching. If you're worried about your tresses getting fried and dried in the hot summer sun, follow these tips and tricks from five Hoboken salons. They should keep your locks luscious even in the hottest months of the year.

1. Shampooing Secrets

"Always shampoo with cold or warm water because hot water dries it out. If you're going to be swimming (especially in chlorine water) use a clarifying shampoo once a week," says Melanie Velez of Oh Capizzi Hair Care.

2. The Best Conditions

"A leave in conditioner is no muss, no fuss. Conditioning treatments don't need to be washed out… and are perfect when you put your hair up to get it fresh and clean," says Frank Lemongello of Shear Madness.

3. Short Cuts

"A client should get their hair trimmed every six to eight weeks to keep hair looking healthy and great," says Andrea Salvatore of Imago Beauty Group.

4. Be Smooth

"If you're using styling products, don't use stiffeners [such as] hair spray, gel or mouse. They tend to break hair and it's hard to distribute a gel through the hair," says James Huelbig of Prismz.

5. Lather Up

"Maracan oil instantly absorbs into the hair, not leaving it greasy. It resolves hair's natural youth and promote long term beauty," says Rachel Sommers of Emanuel's Salon.
