Fashionable Hoboken: Swimwear That Will Make You Feel Good

SXE designs gets Hoboken suited up for summer

If you're one of the many women who dread bathing suit season every year, SXE Fitness designs may have the stylish swimwear you need to have fun in the sun.

Hoboken resident Karla Epstein, owner and designer of SXE Fitness Apparel, collaborated with Applauzi swimwear designs to host an event at the W Hotel  on Sunday afternoon. Cocktails were served as women were allowed to try on the collection.

"I'm all about South American designs," said Epstein, who is from Peru. "And if you're going to buy a South American bathing suit, you have to buy them from a South American person."

Epstein's focus on her clothing designs is combining comfortable yet sexy and fashionable looks for participating in physical activity.

"I'm a gym rat," Epstein said. "Fitness is my life, and my line is geared towards girls who want to look sexy and be comfy. It shows who I am."

Epstein and Applauzi both use Supplex fabric—a Brazilian material that is known for its comfort and quality—in their designs.

"This material stretches out and comes back to regular shape, doesn't wrinkle or fade and it's dry fit," said Epstein. "You'll have it for years."

Sunday's event showcased the bathing suit line before it hits retail stores.

A special promotional price of $40 (two for $60) was set, where friends and family took advantage of the sale.

Rayonne Vossough, a Hoboken resident and founder of 'Single Ladies of Hoboken,' found a perfect suit to wear on the beach.

"It fit nicely," said Vossough, 34. "(The top) offered support, and the stripes were nice because they were minimizing."

Pollyanna Flood, 33, helped Epstein run the event.

"This material is really good," said Flood. "The fit is really  comfortable, sexy and edgy."

Epstein advises all women to look for two things when bikini shopping, "You need something that supports you and something that looks flattering," said Epstein.

What are the trends to follow this season? "Stripes and flowers," she answered.

One last thing to take into consideration when shopping South American style, ia that the clothes generally run small.

"If you're normally a small, you'll probably need a medium… they run small because usually South American designs show a lot more skin then Americans are used to."

SXE Fitness apparel and the bathing suits are scheduled to be on sale at Beach Bum Tanning salon soon starting at $70.
