Hoboken To Host NJ Fashion Week

From Oct 9 to Oct 13 in the W Hotel.

Local fashionistas better get ready.

On Oct. 9, Hoboken will be the official home of the second annual New Jersey Fashion Week, which will be held in the W Hotel.

On Tuesday afternoon, Mayor Dawn Zimmer and NJ Fashion Week founder Donella Tilery announced the event at the Chandelier Room, together with designers, hair stylists and local celebrities. Fashion designers were present at the Chandelier Room on Tuesday, as well as celebrities such as Food Network star and Hobokenite Chris Nirschel and boxing champ Eric Kelly.

One of the designers who will be introducing a line during fashion week is 13-year-old Jazmin Brown, from Garfield, who started modeling at age seven.

Eric Altemari, who was born and raised in Hoboken, is in charge of the models' hair during the fashion shows of New Jersey fashion week.He said the organization is "stepping up the ante" this year and is "bringing the New York fashion week feel to New Jersey." Altemari, who goes by the nick name Eric Alt, said he will be hosting his own show during fashion week too.

Zimmer also announced that she, as well as some other council members, will be walking down the runway during fashion week. She said she didn't know yet which day the show will be.

She said she is not sure yet what she'll be wearing. "I'm choosing a dress," she said. When asked which style she preferred, the mayor answered, "whatever looks good on me!"

Three other council members have expressed intrerest in walking the runway, she said.

Kelly and Nirschel will also be walking down the runway, they said, to promote the clothes of Conquer Style.

Tilery, Zimmer and the other people involved promised a star-studded couple of days. Zimmer said Hoboken is perfect for the event, being a "lively, creative hub."
