That's How We Do It, Hernia Style!

Here's what you missed on Monday night's episode

Cake Boss! The Hoboken St. Patrick's Day Parade! Hernia Surgery! Only one of these three things involve 34 idiots getting arrested.

This particular episode of Cake Boss coincides with the , allowing Hobokenites watching the show to relive that quaint day all over again.

“Carlo's Bakery is going all out,” Buddy says. “We're doing cookies, Irish soda bread, you name it.” He's also going to serve as honorary grand marshal in the parade. The honorary grand marshal—in true 21st century style—gets driven around in a sweet, shiny car.

But, it's not all fun and games. Buddy's got issues. He's got hernia surgery this week. Stay tuned for that scene, we just might catch a blurred glimpse of Buddy's canoli.

Back at the bakery, two clients enter. They're excited, ready to talk to Buddy, the master. Instead in walks Mauro, who tells them Buddy is out. The clients screw their faces into a look of shock like they bought tickets to the newest Bourne flick and saw the screen flash: starring Ben Affleck.

Mauro tempers their trepidation and promises that he'll handle things. “If you don't like it, you can come after me,” he offers. The clients say okay and walk away with the sort of big smiles that secretly say: we're screwed.

This time Mauro narrates while the computer generated design flashes onscreen. “I want to make Buddy proud,” he says.

Meanwhile, back at the hospital, Buddy is dressed in a gown and is reclining on a mobile stretcher, listening to the surgeon explain the procedure. Danny is going to absorb the blood with fondant, while Ralph recreates Buddy's intestines with modeling chocolate. The nurses then wheel Buddy to the operating room and sedate him with anesthesia.

Cut back to the bakery. The cake is actually looking pretty good. Mary enters the kitchen to see if her husband Mauro wants lunch.

“I'm impressed,” she tells him. “You're so sexy, you're the boss.”

“I'm in charge,” Mauro says, as Mary keeps planting kisses on him.

Then, back at the hospital. Lisa's waiting nervously. She sees the surgeon. “That went quite well,” he says.

Lisa enters Buddy's recovery room. He speaks weakly and tells her he's going to take it easy for a few weeks.

But at the bakery the cake still needs some special piping, the kind only Buddy can do. Mauro calls together Frank and three nondescript Carlo's employees, who may as well be wearing the red shirts from Star Trek, and he challenges them to see if they can replicate the master's touch.

Nope! Mauro makes the call, and we see Buddy enter, unshaven, groggy and stumbling.

Buddy handles the piping effortlessly, and says otherwise that Mauro and the team did a great job with the rest of the cake.

“She's all done,” Mauro says. He then goes to deliver the cake, to Hoboken's hotspot Teak. Waiting for the cake, the clients, two men, admit on camera that they considered leaving when they heard Buddy was out. But they see Mauro's work and they're pleased. Note that one of the dudes is wearing the medallion awarded to the Hogwarts honor roll, and the other dude is wearing the same tunic shirt Janis Joplin sported at the '67 Monterrey Pop festival.

Mauro the Hero pays homage to Buddy's favorite line and asks the clients and their guests, “are you ready to eat some cake or what,” albeit with the zest of a panelist on the Macneil Lehrer Newshour.

Then, we see some time has passed and it's parade day. Buddy is back at the bakery, getting ready to ride. “I'm still feeling, 50, maybe 60 percent,” he says.

Outside, his family and staff assemble in front of Carlo's to watch the parade. Big freakin' surprise, Cousin Anthony is annoying everyone by blowing on one of those vuvuzeula horns.

We see Buddy riding in his car and waving. “It was great,” he says about the parade.

But, his mind dwells on the future. “I really need to rest up,” he narrates during the closing credits. “Things at Carlo's bakery are about to get crazy.”
