With Baby and Bakery, Buddy Skates on Thin Ice

Here's what you missed on Monday night's episode.

Buddy Valastro , but he's still got a bakery to run.

The latest episode of Cake Boss opens with Buddy in the nursery trying to sooth Baby Carlo to sleep.

“Even though it's number four for us, I just think that me and Lisa forgot how hard it is to have a newborn,” he says.

With so much happening at home, Buddy says that he's going to lighten his load at the bakery. He wants time to help Lisa and bond with the baby.

But the bakery is still very busy. Buddy says he's going to concentrate only on the big cakes. The family will have to run the day-to-day stuff.

At the bakery, Buddy meets with a client: a mother and her two sons who will have a joint bar mitzvah.

The boys play hockey, and they want a cake that looks like an arcade-style bubble hockey game. They also want little figurine players on it that move.

“Of course you can ask me to make them move,” Buddy tells the boys, with a look on his face that says he'll handle it just as soon as he finishes building a spaceship to Mars.

Buddy gets the team together and they start designing the cake. They'll build a wood base with parts from a real bubble game, and attach modeling chocolate figurines to the gears so that they'll move.

With the hockey cake under construction, Buddy sees Anthony moving some burnt cookies to the front counter. Buddy isn't mad that the cookies are bad, but that Anthony tried to sell them. He wants him to throw them away and learn never to settle for a lousy product.

“I only want to hear two words,” he tells Anthony, “'Okay, Boss.'”

With his younger employees struggling, Buddy says he's got to lean on his old school guys. He has Joey and Mauro making some special cookies from a recipe Buddy learned in Italy.

Meanwhile, the hockey cake is coming along. The base is built and filled with cake, and Frank enters with the gears.

“We're gonna actually get movement here,” Buddy says.

He and the bakers cover the arcade table with different fondant colors and print some hockey team logos on edible icing sheets. They add the top rink and then then the figurines, which actually do move.

Buddy compliments the team on a great job, then returns home to get his older sons Buddy and Marco so they can help him deliver the hockey cake to an ice skating rink. He also treats Lisa to some of the Italian cookies Mauro and Joey made. She loves them.

Buddy and the bakers deliver the cake. It looks so authentic that the bar mitzvah brothers don't even realize it's a cake.

“You guys can play it and eat it,” Buddy says.

As the credits roll we see Buddy skating with his sons, and we hear him talking about daughter Sofia and Baby Carlo.

“I'm a lucky man,” he says.
