I’d been hearing about Pilsener Haus from trusted foodie friends for a while and finally decided to stop in for a couple beers and some appetizers last week. In my mind, I pictured an indoor bier garden setting with a nice beer selection and decent Bavarian-style grub. What I found made me stop in my tracks and say “wow”! The open space is huge and furnished with communal tables at which folks gather and sit with perfect strangers to have a great time.

When we arrived, we made our way to the bar which takes up about half the length of the restaurant. The bar stools are comfortable enough that I could spend some quality time getting acquainted with the super beers being poured by delightful bartenders. There are 60 beers to choose from ranging from local craft to hard-to-find imports both in draft and bottles. On the evening we visited, most guests of the bar were enjoying some type of food. After perusing the menu, I could see why. The food is a combination of comfort foods and items from the grilling station. Cleverly, folks in the mood for foods prepared at the bustling grilling station are asked to go up to a grill cook and place their order directly with him/her. Payment is also made with the grill staff.
