Famous Shore Hot Dog Shop Opens in Hoboken

The new WindMill restaurant is now open at 79 Hudson Street.

A taste of the Jersey Shore has come to Hoboken. WindMill, the hot dog chain popular among New Jersey beachgoers, opened its first Hoboken location at 79 Hudson Street on Monday. The chain has won many awards, including from the reputable Zagat survey.

Roger Corrado, who owns the Hoboken WindMill with his business partner Tim Cochrane, said he used to eat at the WindMill in Belmar while vacationing there as a child with his family.

"I have a lot of good memories from this place," Corrado said.

Corrado and Cochrane bought the franchise rights to open a WindMill in Hoboken in 2007. Corrado said they had been looking for the right location before settling on the one downtown.

“I thought it would be perfect here. This is a popular part of town,” Corrado said.

Corrado, who along with Cochrane had a long career working on Wall Street, grew up in Hoboken, and several of his relatives still live here including his mother.

While WindMill's core product is its hot dog, the restaurant also serves hamburgers, chicken wings and ribeye steak sandwiches, plus french fries, veggie burgers and salads.

Corrado said he and Cochrane want their restaurant to be considered a destination, where regular customers will gather. The restaurant offers music and three flat screen televisions, and also a large mural along the back wall. Corrado said he and Cochrane are planning on having theme days that cater to seniors, children and Stevens students among other groups.

“We want the vibe to be a fun, hip place,” Corrado said. “And we really want to be involved in the community.”

Corrado said that after its current soft opening the Hoboken WindMill will have a grand opening party in May that features some special guests.

The Hoboken WindMill will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. every Sunday through Wednesday, and from 10:30 a.m. to 4 a.m. every Thursday through Saturday. Corrado said the restaurant expects to employ 15 people and that he and Cochrane are accepting applications for open positions.

Coming soon: a nice looking restaurant opens off the beaten path.

What a great addition to Hoboken in so many ways: great late night food, great hot dogs, and a taste of the shore.. Totally psyched!

Why can't places like this come to Wayne? Geez
Wayne's World April 30, 2012 at 01:36 PM
Johnny and Hanges has been in Wayne next to Neil's for a year. Never seems busy when I am there - I hope they make it. Big fan of La Rosa as well! Beats the heck out of Boston Market and locally owned. Patch do a profile of some of these local eateries please - it's obvious so many don't know some of the solid options in Wayne!

If you want the best all the way hot dog one must stop at the Hot Grill in Clifton. If you just want a hot dog with mustard grab a ripper at Rutt's Hut in Clifton. You will not be disappointed.

This place is very close to Wayne and should meet all your hot dog and hamburger needs. The place is great. Bacon dog has actual strips of bacon. Just go there. http://maps.google.com/maps?oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=jersey+johnny%27s+pequannock+nj&fb=1&gl=us&hq=jersey+johnny%27s&hnear=0x89c3037eb4e5e023:0xb954e9e319058704,Pequannock,+NJ&cid=0,0,11008036900346995271&ei=7qSeT-mBIKqg6QGCo-D9Dg&sa=X&oi=local_result&ct=image&resnum=4&ved=0CA8Q_BIwAw

Do they have low carbs at the soup kitchen Boink? Seems your heading there sooner rather than later with all those law suits.

Boink- My weight gain has nothing to do with type of diet I eat. It is simply a case of eating more than I burn off and shame on me because I had made progress the year before. When I did lose weight as I did in 2010 it is simply a case of watching how much I take in. It has worked before when I stayed the course. Gimmick diets like Adkins work when you get in ketosis but only short term as they are not sustainable long term. When I was thin in my late 20s my waist was longer than my inseam then so you are pretty bad at making valid observations at your pitiful attempts at comedy at other's expense. As far as your speculations about me in the shower. You are sick dude. Seek major psychological help or find a night club that can fulfill your fantasies of big beautiful men lathering up and getting themselves clean. I''l take a pass on that wacko. Make sure you show up for court on Wednesday. We wouldn't want another bench warrant not to be covered by Patchwork.

in that location and open until 4am on weekend, i hope at least a few of those 15 employees are security guards who can handle all the drunken knuckleheads who will be dropping in. seriously, how many weeks do you think it will take until the first fistfight?

rtux, I don't think the riff-raff is going to be hanging around Windmill once they get a load of the rate card. I got a small soda and a cheese dog and I was $7.25 lighter for having done so. Damn good weenie though. On the other hand, we have all seen Hoboken revelers repeated shell out north of $35 for shots for four people without batting an eye, so who's to say? Gotta love those debit cards.

I've always thought that Hoboken lacked a good hot dog shop. This is a welcome addition to town; I can't wait to try it out!

Best of luck to you, Alex Happy you are our neighbor. Best regards, The Biggie Family

What a gas Dear Reader! Did you know Windmill hotdogs did not get the memo from a certain blogger that he in fact is the leader of the low carb movement in Hoboken? And speaking of movements, you should take Gas-ex if your tummy is bothering you. I think if you can get your digestive system in order it will be a breath of fresh air to have Windmill hotdogs in Hoboken. Trust me, these are serious businessmen and they are not farting around.

I'll have no part of this bathroom humor! Who's crappy idea was it to start a loose movement to run off with this thread to scatology? It's time to cut this floundering nonsense and flush out the offenders, who frankly don't pass the smell test.
