Coming Up This Week in Hoboken

We'll help you plan your week.

Happy Monday, Hoboken! It's December and this week, there's a host of holiday events to get you in the spirit.

Starting today, the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail is free for Hoboken passengers who are traveling to Newport. Hop on the HBLR at 9th Street, 2nd Street or Hoboken Terminal.

On Tuesday, it's the annual Hoboken Christmas Tree Lighting outside City Hall at 5 o'clock.

Wednesday night, the City Council meets for its first December meeting. There's a resolution on the agenda to allow free parking citywide for the whole month to help give local businesses a post-Sandy boost.

Meanwhile, the Hoboken Shelter will hold its 9th Annual Silent Auction fundraiser at TEAK from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Thursday evening is the Hoboken Winter Carnival with free food and family-oriented fun from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Hanukkah begins Saturday at sundown. The city's annual Grand Menorah Lighting will be on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. For information about serivces and other local events, visit chabadhoboken.com. A very happy Hanukkah to Hoboken's Jewish residents.
