Hoboken Education Association Black History Month Essay Contest 2014 entitled "Dr. Martin Luther King's Dream: 50 Years in Action".

The Hoboken Education Association in conjunction with the Hoboken High School African-American Club are sponsoring the Hoboken Education Association Black History Month Essay Contest 2014 entitled “Dr. Martin Luther King’s Dream: 50 Years in Action”.


Essay Contest Official Rules and Guidelines
 
Grades 4-5, 6-8, 9-12
 
The HEA & HHSAACC Black History Month Essay Contest is open to all 4th through 12th grade students in the Hoboken Public School District. Five winners will be selected: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in elementary school (4-6) student, one junior high school (6-8) student, and one senior high school (9-12) student.

Winners will be notified Friday, March 7, 2014.

Entries must be mailed to: Christopher Munoz800 Clinton StreetHoboken, NJ 07030. All entries must be post marked no later than February 28, 2014. (Contestants are responsible for all shipping costs).  


Senior High School essays should address the following topic: Describe a time when you or someone you know took a bold stand for or against an issue and the outcome of that action.
Junior High School essays should address the following topic: Describe a dream you have to make the world a better place, and what will it take to make this change in today’s society.
4th grade through 6th grade essays should address the following topic: Describe something you wish would happen to make Hoboken a better place to live. 

  • Each student may enter only one essay.
  • Essays submitted must include student’s name, school, home address, telephone number, grade level, title of the essay, and a word count. Essays must be no longer than 500 words in length, and should be typed.
