HJSHS Harvard Model Congress Team Performs Admirably in San Francisco

The 2014 Harvard Model Congress Conference in San Francisco was a milestone event for the Hoboken HMC team. Hoboken students participated in one of the most prestigious and realistic government simulation programs in the country.

Our students collaborated with top students from around the country on congressional committees, including the House Foreign Relations Committee, the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and the Senate Committee on Health, Labor, Education, and Pensions. Team members also impacted the process of government in special programs including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the National Security Council, and HMC Media. Students promoted and defended their proposed laws, while responding to crisis situations such as oil spills, security breaches, and terror attacks. As a result of our students’ diligence and determination, a total of thirty seven bills were considered and seven bills were passed into law. At the conference’s conclusion, the participants felt inspired and proud. Hoboken was honored to receive two awards of excellence by the Harvard Executive Committee.

Alexandra Yoon-Hendricks was distinguished with an Award of Excellence in Media and Jaemison Yoon-Hendricks was recognized with an Award of Excellence for his work for the F.B.I. The following students participated: Jaemison Yoon-Hendricks, Alexandra Yoon-Hendticks, Christopher Johnson, Eimee Mendez, Jessica Parrilla, Jaida Cintron, Danielly Colon, Jazmin Colon, Willie Allen, Jazmin Vergara, and Alfredo Veloce.
