Property Owners Encouraged to Request Street Tree Planting
Residents interested in having trees planted outside their properties this fall are encouraged to place requests with the city's Shade Tree Commission.
The Hoboken Shade Tree Commission is offering to plant trees in the sidewalk adjacent to Hoboken buildings in exchange for $100 and a pledge that the property owner will care for the tree, the city announced Thursday.
Property owners who wish to have a tree planted this fall — between October and November — in an existing empty tree bed or paved sidewalk location next to their homes can complete an online request form on the city's website. The city will not plant trees on private party, but it will open tree wells where they do not exist on public sidewalks.
Before trees are planted, requested locations will be surveyed by a professional to ensure the infrastructure is sound and the site is suitable for growth.
