Free & Low-Cost Family Fun in Hoboken, NJ

Kayaking, gymnastics and outdoor concerts are fun & low-cost ways for families to spend the summer in Hoboken, NJ.

With fourth of July festivities officially over, it's time to get set for the summer slog. Now is the time to establish a routine to work on school reading, writing and math assignments, while leaving time for fun trips in New York and New Jersey.

What are some fun and low-cost ways for families to spend the summer in Hoboken, NJ? The Hoboken Cove Community Boathouse offers free weekend kayaking on the Hudson River. Wear the kids out for bedtime with Tuesday rock concerts at Family Fun Nights in uptown Hoboken. Wednesday evenings bring free Movies Under the Stars at downtown Pier A – pre-show acts include a circus visit, kid rock concerts and a gym workout.

Want to show your kids some culture? Brush up on your iambic pentameter with free Shakespeare in the Park, playing at Sinatra Park from now until July 12th. Teach them about wind instruments at outdoor concerts on Thursdays at the Sinatra Park Amphitheater in downtown Hoboken. Some events have rain dates, check the City of Hoboken twitter feed for cancellation notices if the weather looks iffy.

Looking for low-cost local fun? Pier 13 offers the Hoboken version of the Central Park great lawn with incredible views of the Manhattan skyline, lined with food trucks and no cover charge for events including fireworks viewing  and family fun nights. Need a few hours to yourself? Pop the kids into baseball, gymnastics and lacrosse recreation classes sponsored by the City of Hoboken –  at $25 per four-week session, this is the best deal on either side of the Hudson River.
