Bastille Day Celebrated Hoboken Style at Amanda's Restaurant
Hoboken certainly knows how to throw a party. Here is how it was done last week at Amanda's, one of Hoboken's most beloved local restaurants, in celebration of Bastille Day.
Le Quatorze Julliet - The Many Pleasures of Living in Hoboken
On July 14th, last week, local Hobokenites celebrated the anniversary storming of the Bastille by celebrating an extravagant four-course dinner with carefully selected French wine pairings at Amanda's Restaurant on Washington Street. Eugene and Joyce Flynn were, as always, gracious hosts for a full house of Francophiles and foodies.
Guests mingled at the bar while enjoying an apértif of St. Germain elderflower liqueur and Champagne . Once seated at large tables arranged throughout the charming, brownstone rooms, we stood and raised our glasses for a rousing rendition of Le Marseillaise. Our meal began with a Salade du Bergére - lovely greens topped with a round of goat cheese - accompanied by a crisp rosé from one of my favorite towns in the south of France, Les Baux de Provence.

Next was a delicious tartate of tuna marinated in a fresh herb dressing resting on a chickpea cake, served along with a vibrant, crisp Pouilly-Fuissé from Burgundy. A ragout of duck legs with spring onions and prunes was accompanied by a Jour de Soif made from 100% Cabernet Franc harvested from at least 20 year old vines. Throughout the meal an accordion player serenaded us with French tunes.
The penultimate course was a traditional beef Borguignone and the most smooth, delicious Bordeaux Pomerol I've ever had the pleasure to enjoy. Dessert was a pear Helene, a poached pear topped with French vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce. By this point, I lost track of the name of the final dessert wine but I do remember it being wonderful.

After dinner we all gathered and headed across Washington Street to storm the Elysian Café where we were offered a final glass of Champagne. The best part of the evening, without a doubt, was the wonderful opportunity to meet some new friends in a festive setting and share a happy Hoboken evening together. Next year, ne le manquez pas!
