Is this Rent Control Flyer Misleading?

Do you think that a flyer being distributed by the Mile Square Taxpayers Association, which seeks to remove some of Hoboken's current rent control protections, is misleading to voters?

For a second consecutive year, the vote on a proposed change to Hoboken's rent control protections has gone down to the wire.

As of Wednesday afternoon, after multiple reversals, the rent control status quo ("No" on Public Question No. 1) trailed a move to a vacancy decontrol model ("Yes" on Public Question No. 1 ) by 58 votes, with provisional ballots yet to be counted.

During the run-up to Tuesday's vote, both sides have called out what they consider to be misleading tactics and information being distributed by their opponents.

What are your thoughts on this flyer that a Hoboken Patch reader said she was handed at the entrance to Church Square Park last night around 5:30 p.m.?

The reader, a supporter of maintaining current rent control protections, believes that the flyer implies that rent control supporters should vote "Yes," to keep the status quo when, in fact, the opposite is true.

"To me, that is the very definition of evil," she wrote in an email. "I consider this to be voter fraud. If rent control does not prevail, misleading voters like this will be the reason."
