A thank you to all first responders during Superstorm Sandy.

To the Editor:

A few weeks ago the entire community of Hoboken suffered through super storm sandy.  It brought massive, never seen before flooding, and devastation in regards to lost property to our residents.

It will take some time to recover, but make no mistake about it; Hoboken will continue to be the most sought after place to live because of the community’s response.  During the storm, the Hoboken Fire Department responded to over 800 calls for service.

We even fought a fire during this traumatic event.  Throughout this entire event, you, the residents and the business owners of this town still found a way to bring food and other nourishment to our only operating firehouse which is on Washington Street.

The other fire houses in town flooded as did many other homes and businesses.  Your thoughtfulness and courtesy is greatly appreciated and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

We would also like to thank the National Guard for their support during this storm. Without their vehicles and other assets, our job would have been so much harder.

We would also like to thank each and every volunteer that stepped up and assisted our administration by reaching out to the people in need and relaying critical information to our emergency responders to facilitate any rescues.

Lastly, we would like to thank our brothers and sisters from the Police Department and Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance Corp/EMS. When incidents occur like this, it makes it so much easier to deal with when we work together so seamlessly.

Your efforts and dedication is appreciated and you are true professionals.  It is random acts of kindness that were displayed during this storm that make our town impressive.  We have the best public safety department, greatest residents, and business owners.

Thank you very much!!!
