Four Alarm Fire Destroys 300 Washington St.

A fire broke out in a five story building at Third and Washington Streets around 7 p.m. on Sunday.

A four alarm fire broke out in a five-story building at 300 Washington St. on Sunday night, causing multiple evacuations and some minor smoke-related injuries on Sunday night.

According to one source at the scene, the fire started at New Hoboken Farm, the grocery store on the ground floor, and worked its way up to the fifth floor. The rest of the five story building is residential.

As of 11 p.m., the fire was under control but not yet out. The building—as well as surrounding buildings—would be put on fire watch through the night and Washington Street was blocked off between Second and Fourth Streets.

While officials said there was nobody left inside the building, they couldn't tell how many people were evacuated exactly.

At 10 p.m., bright orange flames—visible from blocks away—were still shooting out of the windows of the building. The fire, mostly in the back of the building, spread to all five floors a little after 9 p.m. A smoke cloud covered Washington Street with debris flying everywhere.

One man who appeared to be in his 40s was transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation, but there were no major injuries, city spokesman Juan Melli said. Two people were treated on the scene and released, Melli said. As far as officials could tell, there were no people in the building. Two firefighters were also being treated for smoke inhalation.

Around 10 p.m. the fire had not spread to other buildings and it was still unclear if it would. One fireman on the scene said it was "possible." A fire truck is parked on Third Street, monitoring the fire and making sure it doesn't spread to surrounding buildings, including McDonald's on the other corner, said Mayor Dawn Zimmer, who was at the scene on Sunday Night.

Barricades were set up to keep a crowd of spectators away from the scene.

Around 9:11 p.m., police radio reported that there was "heavy fire on all five floors," with all the responders still "heavily engaged."

Around 9:45, the fourth and the fifth floor of the building partially collapsed with fire still blazing from the building's windows and heavy smoke.

Eye witnesses at the scene said that the fire department had to use a saw to get into the building when the fire broke out around 7 p.m. Around 7:30, one couple walking by said they saw people on the roof of the building next door, beaming a flashlight down trying to get people to rescue them. Presumably, these were residents of the burning building.

Nicole Moldovan, another eye witness, said that the woman on the roof next door "had a look of sheer terror on her face."

A temporary shelter for those misplaced was set up at the Multi Service Center at Second and Grand Streets, Melli said.

Hoboken fire and police responded, as did the fire departments from Bayonne, Newark and East Newark.

When I visit the site on a mobile device (iPhone) it is slightly different site, with a link to the full site (which does not load as well). I also do not have the comment button on the comments just the article. I think it is how they have coded their mobile version of the site.

If anyone has a reason to hold a grudge against Rory, it is me. But I don't. Exactly because he is as GA portrays him. He's got a good heart and is just trying to figure out his way through life. Perry is so jealous of anyone who is successful and/or happy he literally can't help himself.
Boink February 21, 2012 at 03:14 PM
Nancy - PayPal? Lol !! I know a Nigerian Prince who will give you 25 million if you only deposit 2k in his PayPal Account. Boink isn't defending Klaussen, and he isn't attacking anyone but you, since you choose to get in bed with people who were convicted of Grand Larceny over common sense. Tell the doc you need him to re-balance your Meds. You are clearly not thinking straight, and If you were treading water on this charity event Nancy well you have now drowned. I said donate to the Red Cross and direct them to give the cash to the fire victims and collect your receipt for a tax deduction, and you cannot even see that little bit of well meaning common sense advice. Well you can't if you are blinded by hatred and rage which explains Nancy's behavior. PayPal is not a 501c and neither are cash donations at the door and cash for possibly an illegal raffle depending on the value of the prizes they are giving out throughout the night, after you bought a few drinks right? Some Charity. See for yourself Nancy, go ahead and look up Robin and when he says he "wants to get into your closet" be sure to let him in for a look see. LOL! http://nysdoccslookup.doccs.ny.gov/kinqw00 Donate to the Red Cross folks, Joe just wants your bar business and Rory well he may mean well but he isn't a legit charity and neither is his PayPal account.
Grafix Avenger February 21, 2012 at 03:53 PM
Idiot, Rory does not administrate the account. You are one mean, nasty piece of work, trashing a legit humanitarian effort because of a personal grudge."Possibly illegal raffle" you say. You are a vengeful sociopath. Rory/Joe's last fundraiser made $5,300 for the victims of the Jackson Street fire. And that's only part of the total effort- people gave clothing and all kinds of goods to help these girls who lost everything. The Red Cross didn't do diddly for the Jackson Street victims. The efforts of folks in Hoboken did. And are planning to with respect to 300 Washington. You are a disgusting and disgraceful individual. Any slur you say against me is a compliment coming from you. Smearing Rory is your game. Does that get you off? Turn you on? Creepy. http://grafixavenger.blogspot.com/2012/02/h411-attacks-fundraiser-for-fire.html

One more thing. Watch our for what you wish for, because we all may be looking up YOUR name on that link in the not-too-distant future.

Stop Lying Nancy, Paypal if you cannot attend lying NANCY and Cash if you do but go ahead drop off your gift-cards at Robins nest, since you are so confident they will make it to the victims of the fires. They aren't legally setup to accept anything but cash or at the door unless you are making a check out to a person directly and the silent auction well if that has anything over $400 in value they need a Permit or it's illegal, so make sure they get at least get a raffle PERMIT. Perry Klansman is a vomitous hate-monger and his site is yesterday's "news." His only hope at this point is to go pick another bar fight and weasel his way into another settlement. What a leech.

Fascinating that you've taken to trashing a guy who knows an awful lot about you. An awful lot. Once the 'leverage' you seem to think you have is gone, it's his story to tell if he chooses. I hope he tells it to me.

One more thing: $5,300 raised for the Jackson Street fire victims at Room 84, so stuff it.

Word on the street is that you and your Hoboken411 pals are about to be boinked. I hate when that happens.

I want to say thank you for everyone that has reached out to offer support. We are having a volunteer meeting at The Village Pourhouse this Thursday from 7pm-830pm. If you are interested in helping please attend the meeting, volunteers are needed both short term and long term. We are also happy to announce a local Hoboken 501c has offered to take over the fundraising efforts for those that wish to send money via electronically. Once the 501c has a link on their site, we will inform the public of where to make electronic donations. Thanks everyone for reaching out!!

A certain angry webmaster is full of vitriol and anyone knows that by now. He is allegedly a shakedown artist offering good reviews for free food or ad space based on discussions I have with certain merchants too afraid to come forward. They must be scared of Japanese Twitter Bots and all that fake traffic! :) The problem with this webmaster is he is about to be hit with multiple legal issues all at once and all I can say is it won't be coming from me even though he still loves to steal photos from time to time. Still some points to make this charity fire thing work a bit better: 1) Wait for the fire to be put out before setting up event. 2) Find out who really needs the help before going to print. 3) Set up a 501c and report out fundraising efforts (transparency) To me this effort is well intentioned and the bar owner should be thanked and not criticized for providing space when the club is not that busy anyway. Anyone who makes the argument otherwise should then be willing to bring Party with Purpose into the discussion. A portion of their fundraising goes to party costs and the rest to the "purpose". A 501 c would be a great way to put people at ease. Slandering someone for trying to do good to me is not acceptable however. Whatever mistakes people have made in the past if they sincerely are trying to do good they should be commended if not guided a bit. I smell a lawsuit coming for the pigsty blogger.

RG & Company, I would just like to point out that in no case should one lambaste a business owner who offers a donation of goods, services, space or time to help a good cause. Bank financing is nearly impossible for small businesses right now - so cash is extremely tight. Many business owners give a donation of goods or services, use their contacts, space or time in ADDITION to whatever cash donation they can afford. Regretfully, I can only afford a meager cash donation - but I intend to supplement it with a donation of services to my business. I do not know the specifics - but based on what I know about the people involved I would not be surprised if they also were making whatever cash donations they could afford.

I hope Perry has a good lawyer, looks like he is going to need one this week!

Well Reformerus_Gianticus don't look now but there's a serious crimp in the political operatives for Beth Mason here since pigsty is in some deep water. All the Mason operatives have scurried back into the dark. Not a curiousKim gal, prosbus/HQ et al or a Finboy to see anywhere. Someone's boinked.

The emergency meeting at the Elysian tonight on the Boys and Girls Club has been cancelled. I can't risk being seen with Perry at Hoboken411 under any circumstances. Did I say Hoboken411? I don't know anything about that website and have never owned it.

Hmmmm... what's all this buzz about a coming legal storm on Klaussen's horizons? Could it possibly include his evil henchmen? At a minimum they'll be deposed... should that storm hit Hateville411. Can't wait! There's nothing like getting whacked with one's own bad-karma boomerang. Got any earwitness news? Do tell! grafixavenger666@gmail.com

forgetThefeds is right about the legal problems for Hoboken411. Not a big deal for Beth Mason to add to her current roster of cases. Can she do it without this one coming back to be a problem for her?

Jabberwock, with all the bickering, it is hard to figure out who's who, especially with screen names like "professorpinetop" and "redhaven" popping up on this site. Some people are adding those names to their stable of screen names simply to attack. Those two names were regular posters on Hoboken411 a few years ago, and now I find it in bad form that people are stealing them to post here, but some people are petty and uncreative. Whenever I post anything questioning city hall's government, I am also labeled as a "mason operative." I refuse to continue to defend myself as an independent thinker, like I see you have here.
dynamitegoesBOOM February 22, 2012 at 12:43 AM
The TNT will go BOOM around lunch time tomorrow and the house that Beth built will fall like a cinderblock. Hey Beth, don't pay for a lawyer this time, just say "I don't know him at all" :-)

Yeah, Jabberwock, I too have had ENOUGH of people stealing Lane and Kim's old screen names! Is nothing sacred?
Klaussenfluffer February 22, 2012 at 01:30 AM
I too have had Enough of people stealing Lane Bajardi's and Kim Cardinal's screen names. Doing work for Beth Mason should be considered sacred. When people are out performing character assassination on her behalf, they shouldn't be mocked. How else can we appreciate the efforts of Perry Klaussen's fascist ways when his underlings are being exposed here? It's just horrible, horrible I tell ya.
Enough February 22, 2012 at 02:38 PM
Klaussen-whatever: Your post confirms everything I said before. You say posters here engage in "character assassination" on behalf of Beth Mason, and then you go ahead and call out private citizens by their full names. Hypocrite. I have no personal relationship with the people you love to bash here, but your constant mentioning of them is harassment, and it sinks the discussion below middle school level. Grow up. This post was NOT endorsed or paid for by Beth Masson or Hoboken411.
Klaussenfluffer February 22, 2012 at 03:09 PM
Is Lane Bajardi, the guy who sought and was named to the conflicted Observer Highway board on the Municipal garage a private citizen? How many people has Lane and his wife coordinated character assassinations on Hoboken411? He's never denied he is the ghostwriter for political smearing stories on Beth Mason's favorite website. So not sure why you are so upset. Why are upset Lane? You throw me under the bus in Newark, I'm going to throw you under the bus.
