Cause of Late Night Fire Still Under Investigation

A two-alarm fire broke out in uptown Hoboken on Tuesday night.

A two-alarm fire at the uptown Sims Pump Valve Companya t 1314 Park Ave. on Tuesday night caused the evacuation of an entire city block but didn't injure anybody, Hoboken police said.

The fire started around 9:40 p.m. when a machine at Sims apparently caught fire. The fire spread to a nearby office, according to the police report.

Traffic was diverted at Fourteenth Street and Park Avenue. Buildings on the east side of Willow Avenue and the west side of Park Avenue were evacuated.

When the fire was under control a little more than an hour after it started, residents were permitted back into their houses.

The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The fire comes about a week and a half after a blaze heavily damaged two buildings on downtown Madison Street.
