City Begins Search for Next Police Chief

Hoboken Police Chief Anthony Falco will be forced to retire next year when he turns 65.

The City of Hoboken is officially beginning its search for a new police chief to replace outgoing Chief Anthony Falco, who will be retiring next year, a city press release announced Wednesday.

Falco, a 42-year veteran of the force, will be forced to relinquish his departmental reins on June 30, 2014, when he turns 65, the mandatory retirement age for New Jersey police officers.

“During Chief Falco’s tenure, crime in Hoboken has remained at historic lows,” Mayor Dawn Zimmer said in a statement. “We want to build on this progress and create an even more professional police department to serve our great city.”

Falco, who became the ninth chief of the Hoboken Police Department in 2009, is a lifelong resident of Hoboken and a 1966 Hoboken High School graduate, according to the department's website.

The city has opened up the chief's test to all current captains and lieutenants in its search for the department's next leader.
