Federal Judge Drops Former Hoboken Lieutenant Andriani's Case

A federal law suit by former Hoboken Police Lieutenant Angelo Andriani has been dismissed by the judge, Mayor Dawn Zimmer announced on Tuesday. 

According to the city's announcement, Judge William Martini "dismissed all claims of discrimination and retaliation asserted by Andriani."

Andriani had sued the city of Hoboken, the Hoboken Police Department, Zimmer, Police Chief Anthony Falco and Police Captain Edelmiro Garcia. 

Andriani, whose legacy is dominated by his role in the 2007 SWAT scandal, was suspended from his job in 2010. 

On Jan. 18, 2010, Andriani was involved in a disturbance incident in the Tampa Bay Airport after allegedly illegally showing his police badge. Although he had to hand in his gun and his badge when he was suspended, it turned out he kept some old badges, then-Corporation Counsel Kates said at the time. 

The Hoboken SWAT Team was suspended in 2009, after Andriani and several others were involved in the so-called "Hooters Scandal." Several Hoboken SWAT officers, during a trip to the South were photographed with Hooters waitresses who were holding their guns. 

After the incident, Andriani was suspended with pay, receiving his full salary, until February 2010. 

In 2011, Andriani sued for his job back and the Civil Service Commission ruled that his termination should be turned into a 90-day suspension.

The city appealed this decision.

While the federal discrimination case has been dismissed, Andriani is still in litigation with the city of Hoboken. As of January, he was still suing the city to get his job back.
