Jersey City Man Accused of Screwdriver Stabbings on 1st Street

Varnell Richardson, 26, stabbed a dog and attempted to stab a man in separate incidents Monday morning, police said.

A 26-year-old Jersey City man has been accused of stabbing a dog in the leg and attempting to stab a man in the face with a screwdriver in separate incidents Monday morning on 1st Street.

Varnell Richardson was charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, two counts of possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes and cruelty to animals, according to NJ.com.

Richardson allegedly attacked a Hoboken man and his dog, jumping on the back of the animal and stabbing one of the hindlegs with a screwdriver shortly before 8:30 a.m. Monday, according to the article.

Richardson then fled eastbound on 1st Street and attempted to stab a 43-year-old West New York man, causing a small cut under his right eye, according to the article.
