A Hoboken woman who was part of the MLB Tonight team that won an Emmy at this year's prestigious television award ceremony had the statuette stolen from her apartment complex Friday before she even had a chance to hold it, the Jersey Journal reported.
Police said the statue was taken from the vestibule of Stephanie Scarpulla's Observer Highway building on Friday shortly after UPS shipped it and dropped it off in the building's lobby area, located between an unlocked front door and a locked, buzzer-operated inner door, according to police reports.
When Scarpulla returned to retrieve the award, all that remained was the empty box, police said.
Scarpulla, 34, was part of an extensive team of associate producers who received the Emmy for Outstanding Daily Studio Show in May for work on MLB Tonight, the MLB Network's signature show. MLB Tonight is a two-hour wrap up of baseball news and game recaps broadcast nightly throughout the season.
Police are hopeful they can recover the statue because it is inscribed with her name, the Jersey Journal reported.
