Police Get News Vehicles, Uniforms

Hoboken police force acquires nine new vehicles and a uniform makeover.

Hoboken police officers are better equipped to serve and protect the city's residents following the recent purchase of nine new vehicles and a change to a more patrol-appropriate uniform, the city announced last week.

"With the new additions to our fleet and our brand new uniform change, the citizens of Hoboken will now not only have one of the most professional and well-educated [police forces] in the county, but also one of the better equipped," Sgt. John Petrosino said in a statement. "The residents of Hoboken deserve nothing less.”

The department's new vehicles include a 15-seat Ford Econovan, two Ford Interceptors, two Ford Explorers and four Harley Davidson Road King motorcycles. The new unis give officers a more casual and approachable look, which Petrosino said he hopes will bring residents and police closer together.

Detective Vince Lombardi, president of the Hoboken Policemen's Benevolent Association, commended Mayor Dawn Zimmer for her commitment to enhancing the force's equipment and facilities.

“The steady hiring of new officers, ongoing replacement of our aging patrol vehicles, renovations of police headquarters, approval of new work uniforms, and future K9 unit are just a few of many positive and progressive endeavors supported by the mayor, and we thank her for her strong commitment to public safety.” Lombardi said in a statement. “Protecting the public and keeping the peace is our purpose, and Mayor Zimmer has proven our purpose is her priority.”

Zimmer, who joined Petrosino, Lombardi, Police Chief Anthony Falco and Officers Willie Montanez and Robert Truppner for a photo-op last week with the new police threads, cars and bikes said the equipment and vehicle upgrades were well-deserved.

“Our Police Department is always there for our community when we need them most,” Zimmer said. “They deserve to be as well-equipped and prepared as possible to do their jobs and keep us safe, and I thank our Police Officers for partnering with us on investing in their new uniforms.”
