Police: Hoboken Man Assaulted, Left Unconscious

The incident took place on Monday night.

A Hoboken man was assaulted on Monday night in front of 418 Monroe St., around 8 p.m., and left unconscious in the street, police said.

The 36-year-old victim was struck in the head by someone with whom he had exchanged "words" earlier in the day, according to police.

A woman who was in the area of the incident on Monday night told police that she saw a man ride up to the victim on a bicycle, struck him in the head and left, police said.

According to the eye witness the man was wearing blue jeans, a white t-shirt and a red cap, police said.

The victim, who was treated on the scene, said that he knew who had assaulted him, police said.

"I know who did it," the victim told police, "but I will get him myself." The victim added that the alleged assaulter lives in the Hoboken Housing Authority, according to reports.

The incident took place in front of Ottomanelli’s Liquor store, police said, which may have some camera surveillance to help the investigation.
