Reports: Two Men Arrested After Attempting to Disarm Police

The two were arrested on Saturday around 2 a.m., police said.

Two men were arrested on Saturday night after allegedly assaulting police officers and trying to take their weapons, according to police reports.

Early Saturday morning, two men appeared to be urinating in public in the area of Newark and Washington Streets, police said. When police walked up to the men, the officers also noticed that there was a fight in front of Room84 on downtown Washington Street.

As the officers approached, 22-year-old Hanif Bugg from Prospect Park, walked up to them and started flaring his arms, police said. While doing so, he struck one of the officers in the chest, according to reports.

The officer struck the man in his legs with his metal baton, police said. While on the ground, Bugg allegedly tried to disarm the officer by grabbing his nightstick and taking it away from him. Bugg had to be restrained by three cops before he was placed under arrest, police said.

While this was taking place, another 22-year-old allegedly interfered with the arrest, police said. Michael Bahrynivsky, from Clifton, came close to the officer and tried to assault the cop.
