City Goes Out to Bid to Start Construction on New Uptown Park

A traffic signal will also be installed there by the county.

The city has advertised a bid for the construction of the first phase of 1600 Park and the Hoboken Cove.

The work for which the city is looking to hire a contractor include the construction of a multi-use field with lighting as well as bleachers and leaning rails along the Park Avenue service road.

The park will also feature a rest room, benches, a dog run, a sliding hill, picnic benches and bike racks. The city has posted the conceptual master plan for the full park development on its website

The traffic signal that is needed up there will be installed by the county. The light with a pedestrian countdown timers will be placed at 16th Street and Parke Avenue.

Without the signal, Mayor Dawn Zimmer has said,

The construction of Hoboken Cove, to the east of 1600 Park, will be part of the second phase of the construction, expected to take place in the spring of 2013.

In order to finish more work—including the boat house and improvements to the waterfront—more fundraising will have to be done, according to the city.
