City Goes Out to Bid to Start Construction on New Uptown Park

A traffic signal will also be installed there by the county.

The city has advertised a bid for the construction of the first phase of 1600 Park and the Hoboken Cove.

, the lack of a traffic signal at that location, other changes in construction and have delayed the project.

The work for which the city is looking to hire a contractor include the construction of a multi-use field with lighting as well as bleachers and leaning rails along the Park Avenue service road.

The park will also feature a rest room, benches, a dog run, a sliding hill, picnic benches and bike racks. The city has posted the conceptual master plan for the full park development on its website

The traffic signal that is needed up there will be installed by the county. The light with a pedestrian countdown timers will be placed at 16th Street and Parke Avenue.

Without the signal, Mayor Dawn Zimmer has said,

The construction of Hoboken Cove, to the east of 1600 Park, will be part of the second phase of the construction, expected to take place in the spring of 2013.

In order to finish more work—including the boat house and improvements to the waterfront—more fundraising will have to be done, according to the city.

Happy 1600 Park is moving along after decades of no progress under previous Hoboken Administrations. The plans look even better than the previous drafts. Hope that we have seen the last of the City Council minority attempts at sabotaging it's progress for their own selfish political reasons.

Hobbs, It is plus 3 years under this administration. So many excuses. Ian and Dawn said a year ago the project was delayed due to the lack of bonding for a traffic light. Then it wasn't a traffic light which the county is installing but redesign. The construction contract still hasn't been awarded and if Sinata Park is an indicator, award of contract and start of construction are two very differnt actions. It is time for this mayor and administration to stop blaming past administrations and take responsibility for squandering time and opportunity. Perry

Why must you perpetuate this Old vs New standoff? Grow up!

Did it ever occur to you the park even if built still couldn't open until that light that still hasn't been installed got installed by the county? Considering how long it took them to redo the bottom of River Road down by the PA police station, I don't expect them to do the work all that fast. Personally I am just happy they are doing something to put in a park and we aren't looking at a high rise office building or condo like some on your side of the divide wanted.

Now, now Perry must you always be so bitter and negative. Everyone knows there was a huge mess that had to be cleaned up from past Hoboken Administrations. Sinatra Park is huge one of those past Administration messes. How many years was nothing done about 1600 Park on under convicted felon and former Mayor Russo's Adminiistration? It was eight years of nothing done under Mayor Roberts' Administration. Nothing was done in the 27 days your "friend" convicted felon and former Mayor Cammerano's Administration was in office. So in three years Mayor Dawn Zimmer Administration saved a million dollar clean up grant for1600 Park Avenue that was about to expire. The property has been cleaned up. Plans have been vetted by the EPA etc....finacing has been found and put in place to pay for the work. The public has participated and the Administration made extensive changes the public had requested and is now putting them out for bids. I understand you feel the need to be negative and constantly attack the Zimmer Administration for your own political reasons but the you are dead flat wrong. Imagine what more could have been accomplished if your "friends" on the City Council Castellano, Mason, Russo and your plan B Occhipinti were not trying to sabotage the best interests of the people of Hoboken.

I sure hope Dawn loses this upcoming election. Maybe if we got someone with a brain in office stuff would actually get done. All Zimmer does is blame everyone but herself,in fact she has never publicly said once she is wrong for anything. You all voted for her, you know who you are and now look at Hoboken, slowly sinking, crumbling, everything delayed, parking tickets you don't serve, the list is endless. Way to go folks!! You don't go from being a bar mitzvah photographer, to council to a mayor. She is poison for Hoboken.

"Hoboken Cove .... will be part of the second phase of the construction, expected to take place in the spring of 2013." What a laugh! if the FIRST phase takes place as early as the spring of 2013, I will be amazed. At least the geese have a feeding grounds in the mean time...

Franz - here's my guess. Zimmer is paying you. She wants to make her opposition look like utter morons. She really is nefarious.

Hobbs, Me Negative, surely you jest. If you are marking time until the completion of the nascent park, you should agree, three and one-half years of the ten years you indicated occured during Dawn's term as mayor. The "Year of the Parks" turn out to be no more than de minimus upgrades to existing pocket parks. Perry

Always can count on your politically based negativity, pomposity and your very poor choice of "friends," :-)
