City Opens Cooling Center as Heat Index Tops 100

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory until 8 p.m. Thursday.

With heat index values expected to top 100 Thursday and a National Weather Service heat advisory in effect until 8 p.m., the city of Hoboken has opened a cooling center in the ground floor conference room of City Hall from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Residents may also escape the heat at the air conditioned Hoboken Public Library, located at 500 Park Avenue, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Sprinklers and water features at Church Square Park, Jackson Street Park, Madison Park, Elysian Park, Stevens Park, Pier A, Pier C and Columbus Park may also come in handy for a cool down.

In light of the extreme heat, the city encourages residents to check on their neighbors, especially those who are elderly or who have special needs.
