Housing Authority Director's Freedom of Speech Claims Move Forward

Judge dismisses accusations mayor threatened to fire Carmelo Garcia if he didn't support certain contractors.

A State Superior Court judge has ruled accusations Hoboken's mayor violated Carmelo Garcia's civil rights can move forward, but dismissed the assemblyman and housing authority director's claims of retaliation.

Judge Lawrence Maron stood behind his previous ruling that Garcia wasn't involved in a hostile work environment and dismissed his claims that Mayor Dawn Zimmer threatened to fire him if he didn't support certain contractors, according to NJ.com.

However, accusations that Zimmer, her husband, Stan Grossbard, and former housing authority chairman Jake Stuvier violated Garcia's freedom of speech can move forward, the article said.
