PolitickerNJ: Bhalla Looking to Run for Assembly on Brian Stack's Ticket

Hoboken's Councilman-at-Large raised $40,000 at a December fundraiser.

Councilman Ravi Bhalla is raising money for a potential assembly run on State Senator Brian Stack's ticket, according to PolitickerNJ.

Bhalla hosted a fundraiser earlier this month in conjunction with Newark Mayor Cory Booker at the Newark Ramada.

"We're plugging away," Bhalla told PolitickerNJ. "One thing about running at that level is that it's earned, not given. I am building a strong fundraising base."

Tickets were between $250 and $2,6000 and according to Politicker, Bhalla raised $40,000.

Bhalla ran for Assembly in 2011, as an independent, but lost to Assemblymen Sean Connors and Ruben Ramos Jr. Bhalla is currently serving his first term on the Hoboken City Council. He is up for re-election — together with the two other at-large councilmembers as well as Mayor Dawn Zimmer — in November, 2013.

Stack is a known ally of Gov. Chris Christie. And while Bhalla is known to be a Democrat, he told PolitickerNJ that he is not committed to any candidate yet.
