Harlem Globetrotter Talks to Hoboken Public School Students about Bullying

Buckets Blakes spoke to about 300 elementary school aged students in Hoboken on Monday afternoon.

Harlem Globetrotter Buckets Blakes addressed the issue of bullying in front of 300 of Hoboken's elementary students on Monday afternoon.

Students from Wallace, Calabro and Connors attended the event, which was held at the Hoboken High School.

Buckets spoke to the kids for about 40 minutes, said Scott Katz, who produced a documentary on the Harlem Globetrotters for ESPN. Katz said he asked the Globe Trotters to come to Hoboken before reaching out to School Board member Leon Gold and Superintendent Mark Toback.

"They were all high fiving him," Katz said. "The kids were very engaged."

The students left Buckets with a good impression, Katz said.

Talking about bullying is always tricky, Katz said, because there is peer pressure involved.

But at the event on Monday, Katz said, "the kids were well behaved."

Buckets invited three students and two teachers into the famous Globetrotters 'Magic Circle.'

They performed ball handling and passing tricks while Sweet Georgia Brown played, Katz said.
