Hoboken School Board Says Goodbye to Members Minutillo, Sullivan

School Board Members Theresa Minutillo and Maureen Sullivan completed their last meeting on Tuesday night.

Theresa Minutillo and Maureen Sullivan retired from the Hoboken Board of Education on Tuesday night.

Both Sullivan and Minutillo decided not to run for reelection in last month's elections.

"Six and a half years has been a long time," said Minutillo, "I have seen a lot of progress."

Minutillo and Sullivan received a standing ovation from their fellow board members and the public.

"It has been an honor and a privilege," said Sullivan, whose daughter was in attendance on Tuesday night. "Good luck to all of you."

As of next month, Tom Kleupfel and Jean Marie Mitchell will be taking their seats on the dais. Kleupfel and Mitchell ran on the Kids First ticket last month and won the election, as well as incumbent Ruth McAllister.

Under Theresa Minutillo the Hoboken School District has been classified a "District in Need of Improvement" by the state and federal government for the first time in its history. Under Theresa Minutillo over 90% of students now attend a school that has failed to meet state and federal NCLB Adequate Yearly Progress for the past 3 years. Under Theresa Minutillo there have been 4 high school principals in 2 and a half years and 3 superintendents in la little over 2 years. Under Theresa Minutillo Connors School received a very damming CAPA report indicating substandard educational progress. Under Theresa Minutillo the high school has the 3rd lowest graduation rate in the county as well as a school that went from the 2nd most improved high school in the state of New Jersey to being ranked in the bottom 40 high schools in New Jersey. Under Theresa Minutillo local Hoboken Adult Night School was terminated. Under Theresa Minutillo test scores have never been lower. Under Theresa Minutillo hundreds of students are now "school choice" students from out of town--primarily because parents of public school age students have abandoned the public schools and attendance is at an all time low. Good luck to Theresa Minutillo- she was effective at politicizing and polarizing public school education in Hoboken-- but the record shows she was detrimental to the education of our children.

Kids First is cleaning up the mess and nothing improves overnight. But then again, neither is the twinkie mess of those who should be shunned and got their Nazi Truck asses handed to them. Enjoy the taste!

Love ya, Theresa! Beware the green-eyed (curious) monster. She's absolutely obsessed with you, raging jealous. Because you are an accomplished leader, while she's amounted to nothing, done nothing of consequence for Hoboken, hitched her wagon to a failed politician with no future. So the bitter shrew tears at the reputations of good people who give to their community- be they elected officials or volunteers on municipal boards and/or bloggers. My goodness, the jealousy has rotted her brain. Thank you Theresa for all you've done. You are an inspiration to our daughters- an accomplished professional, a mom and a community leader. Best wishes, honey. XO, GA http://grafixavenger.blogspot.com/2012/12/balls-of-steel.html

I never trusted anything that Mr. Raia and his circle did on the board. I will never vote for any candidate for the school board that he backs. Kids First's win shows that I'm not in the minority when it comes to Mr. Raia and company. My child goes to the Hoboken public schools. She just turned 4 and is doing great. She is learning to recognize and write letters and is doing great with addition and subtraction.

The common strategy over the past few years as Theresa Minutillo and her Kids First team have plunged the Hoboken School District into an abyss has been to change the conversation from making the district better to "what a mess we took over, this is going to take years." It was a strategy they learned from former interim Peter Carter. But the data shows differently. When Theresa Minutilo took majority control 14% of students attended a school that failed to make AYP. Since taking over that number has skyrocketed to over 90%. When Theresa Minutillo took over the district there were 2200 students in the district, now there are 1800. When Theresa Minutillo took over there was a thriving and exciting adult education program in the high school, now there is nothing and adult ed is "outsourced." When Theresa Minutillo took over she was against school choice and voted against it a number of times, now there are hundreds of school choice children in our schools and she has voted for EVERY increase in number (to make up for the abandonment of the public schools by Hoboken parents). When Theresa Minutillo tok over legal fees were held in check and so were lawsuits, once she took majority control legal bills became so high the district received a negative audit finding by the State of New Jersey. SAT scores have never been lower than under Theresa Minutillo's "leadership"- The district has never been in more of a mess...save the spin.

Nothing you say CuriousGal will change this fact. I have been voting against Raia, Garcia, Burns, and company since 2007. I'm still voting against them. I will always vote against them. And I'm not the only one. The only way someone can beat Kids First now is to be better than Kids First (there is always room for improvement) and have no ties at all to Raia, Burns, Garcia, Russo and their like.

Folks, please shun she-who-steals-from Wikipedia: http://hoboken.patch.com/articles/doyle-s-seat-to-remain-vacant-for-at-least-two-more-meetings#comment_5698653 A plagiarist has no business moralizing about-or even participating in- a serious discussion about education. I have figured her out. She-who-plagiarizes-from-Wikipedia has serious issues with women. Think of it. Who does she choose for her most vicious online attacks: WOMEN- Dawn Zimmer, Theresa Minutillo, me. She is incredibly jealous of women who engage in civic life- be they elected officials, municipal board members or bloggers. She can't BE us so she's gotta DESTROY us. Her rage against powerful or opinionated women is all quite sick. Is it because she's fat? Unhappy professionally? Unaccomplished? Married to a guy that shops in the little boy's department? The issue is NOT us, never has been. She is sick. Ordinary critiques of female public figures are not enough- she wants to make 'national news", to disseminate her character assassinations to the broadest possible audience. She conflates our significance to conflate the importance of our jihad against us. Here's what's pretty clear now. She-who-steals- from- Wiki has been coordinating internet strategy on Patch for the anti-KF blogging team. That is why Passkey occasionally sounds like her. She's got all the log-ins.
