Hoboken Students Win Theater Awards

Drama club attended Speech and Theatre Association of New Jersey Governor's Awards at Rutgers University.

The Hoboken High School drama club attended last Saturday the Speech and Theatre Association of New Jersey (STANJ) Governor's Awards at Rutgers University.

Hoboken drama club members Jazmin Vergara and Danielly Colon were finalists for improvisation and Jaemi Yoon-Hendricks and Gina Rotondi each were finalists for comedic monologue.

STANJ is the voice of advocacy for the inclusion of speech and theater arts in the educational curricula. Danielle Miller, who runs drama club and the musicals for Hoboken schools, was voted onto the executive board for the STANJ organization this past fall.

The association includes members from elementary, middle, high school, college, and professional theater who are interested in acting, directing, forensics, musical theater and technical theater.

She helped organize the statewide competition on Saturday that included 20 high schools from across the state with more than 400 students competing. Miller congratulated the entire drama club for its participation.
