Long Time High School Track Coach Not Re-Appointed

The stipends for the track and field coach were taken off the agenda on Tuesday night.

The Hoboken Board of Education unanimously approved the appointment and stipends of the district's coaches for the 2012-2013 school year during Tuesday night's meeting.

One name, however, wasn't included on an amended resolution the board members ultimately voted on: long time Cross Country Track Coach Judith Burrell was not reappointed. 

Burrell, 48, also serves the district as a special education teacher and has worked for the district for the past 25 years. In April 2011, Burrell to the Hoboken Housing Authority.

The track and field coaching position is now open to other district employees as well as outside candidates. Burrell's stipends, which totaled $14,500 according to an earlier version of Tuesday night's agenda, were taken off after the school board entered into a closed session.

Superintendent Mark Toback, in an email, said he couldn't say much about the situation.
