Stamp Out Hunger Drive Coming to Hoboken, Officials Make First Donation

All Hobokenites can participate in the initiative by giving their mail carriers a food donation on Saturday.

The Hoboken Post Office will be participating in this weekend's Stamp Out Hunger food drive.

Hoboken's mail carriers will be among the country's 175,000 who are collecting non-perishable donations on Saturday May 11.

Donations will be left in mailboxes and picked up by the carriers. Hoboken is one of more than 10,000 communities participating.

"We want to eradicate hungry in our state and in our country," said U.S. Senator Bob Menendez who attended the official kick off on Friday morning.

Menendez and Mayor Dawn Zimmer made the first donations to the Stamp Out Hunger program after the announcement on Friday morning.

Since 1993, letter carriers have collected more than a billion pounds of food, said Arthur Tate, Hoboken's postmaster.
