Swearing-In, Special Meeting This Week in Hoboken

Let us help you plan your week.

With Christmas coming on Wednesday, it's a slightly less busy week than usual in Hoboken.

The two major municipal events — a police swearing-in ceremony and a special city council meeting — will be held Monday.

Residents are invited to attend the swearing-in of nine new Hoboken police officers at 2 p.m. Monday in the City Hall court room.

Later that evening, at 7 p.m., city council will convene for a special meeting in the same room. Prior to the public portion, council will meet with legal counsel in closed session to discuss the amount in punitive damages the city will pay out to former public safety director Angel Alicea, who won a discrimination lawsuit against the city last week. Once the meeting opens to the public, council will vote to authorize the decided upon payment.

Hoboken public schools are closed this week and will remain closed for holiday break through Jan 1., reopening on Thursday, Jan. 2.

Municipal offices are closed on Wednesday for Christmas. As a result, there will be no street sweeping, parking meters or permit rule enforcement on Wednesday. The Hop will stop running at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
