Same-Sex Marriage Ceremonies, QLC Political Debates This Week in Hoboken

The week opens Monday with Hoboken's first same-sex marriage ceremony, officiated by Mayor Dawn Zimmer at 4 p.m. The ceremony follows Friday's state Supreme Court decision that it would not put a temporary stay on same-sex marriages at the request of Gov. Chris Christie. Same-sex couples can apply for marriage licenses at Hoboken City Hall in the Health Department on the third floor.

The first two of four Quality of Life Coalition debates scheduled in advance of the Nov. 5 election will be held this week at the Elks Lodge, located at 1005 Washington St. Council at Large candidates square off Tuesday night and mayoral candidates spar on Wednesday night. Both forums begin at 7 p.m.

Center Studio will hold a free lecture/demonstration Wednesday at the Hoboken Public Library as part of its "Look, Feel, and Grow Younger with the Alexander Technique," campaign. The event is scheduled for 6 p.m.

NJ Tech Meetup, a group of more than 150 tech entrepreneurs who meet monthly on the Stevens Institute campus to share best practices and learn from industry innovators, is hosting a lecture by fon.com CEO Nina Sodhi on Thursday. The event begins at 6:45 p.m. with a half-hour of speed networking followed by presentations from three startups. Sodhi will speak from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event will be held in the Bissinger Room on the fourth floor of the Stevens Institute's Howe Center. 

Willie McBride's, located at 616 Grand St., will host a Hoboken Alumni-sponsored comedy night Thursday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at www.brownpapertickets.com/event/474310 or by emailing HobokenAlumni@gmail.com.

Studio 12 Hair Designers, located at 534 Garden St., will offer 20 percent discounts to anyone with a hair appointment Friday between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. The studio will donate 20 percent of its proceeds that day to the Cancer Research Institute. Customers are encouraged to wear pink. 

This is the final week for both of Hoboken's weekday farmers' markets.

Hoboken Downtown Farmers’ Market is open Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Washington Street between Newark Street and Observer Highway, while the Hoboken Uptown Farmers’ Market is in business Thursday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the corner of 13th and Hudson streets.
