The Hoboken Relay for Life fundraiser took place all day Saturday at Pier A Park.
On its tenth birthday, the Hoboken Relay for Life celebrated all the cancer survivors who have been fighting for more birthdays of their own. The local fundraising chapter of the American Cancer Society held its tenth annual walk all day Saturday at Pier A Park. During the Relay teams of walkers parade around the pier to symbolize the fight against cancer. This year over 55 teams and 460 walkers raised almost $130,000, which will go towards the American Cancer Society's efforts at finding a cure. Hoboken is one of over 5,000 communities across the United States that participates in Relay for Life events. Texas Arizona was the place to be Wednesday night, as Hoboken's Relay for Life put on their 5th annual Bachelor/Bachelorette Fundraiser Auction to a packed and noisy house. When all of the donations were counted, Relay for Life raised about $6,000 for The American Cancer Society. Texas Arizona even stepped up, donating $750. For the auction, 45 singles, between 21 and 35, were at the mercy of the hungry crowd, who each paid $10 ($5 in advance) for the chance to take home one of Hoboken's most eligible. Jeannie Sanchez, Chairman of the Entertainment Committee for Relay for Life, said, "It's a great way to get the Hoboken community out."
