Two popular chains are settling on Washington Street this year. In the former blockbuster site, a new location of Anthropologie is moving in this spring. A few blocks downtown, a bright blue sign is promoting the arrival of a Baby Gap this summer. What do you think about the arrival of the chain stores? The clothing store will fill the old Blockbuster site.
Anthropologie is looking to open its doors in Hoboken in April. The clothing store is coming to the former Blockbuster site at 412 Washington St., according the broker of the deal, Ron Zimmerman. Renovations are currently going on at the 7500 square feet space. The long-term lease was completed in late November, Zimmerman said. "They're investing in Hoboken," he added. The lease is at least 10 years. Negotiations had been going on for a while. Blockbuster Video, the previous tenant, closed in March 2011. Zimmerman called the arrival of the women's clothing store an "incredible boost" to Hoboken. The women's clothing store could be moving into the vacant space at 412 Washington St.
This article has been corrected to show that the lease to 412 Washington St. has not yet been signed. It is not yet certain that women's clothing store Anthropologie will occupy the space. The lease at the old Blockbuster site, where women's clothing store Anthropologie may come next, hasn't been signed yet, said realtor Karina Abad, from RE/MAX Gold Coast in a phone interview on Monday night. In a blog post Abad announced the lease, but later said the deal wasn't done yet. Blockbuster Video, the previous tenant, closed in March 2011.
