Hoboken Council Members Mason, Russo Eyeing Assembly Run, Report Says

After an appearance in Union City with State Senator Brian Stack, PolitickerNJ labeled Councilwoman Beth Mason "poised to run" for Assembly.

When Councilwoman Beth Mason appeared alongside State Senator Brian Stack and Governor Chris Christie at an event in Union City on Thursday morning, she was there to celebrate the opening of the Colin Powell Elementary School. But, almost immediately, it turned into a quasi campaigning event.  According to PolitickerNJ, Mason is looking to run for the 33rd Assembly seat come November. Mason, who currently serves as Second Ward Councilwoman, ran for mayor twice in 2009. Mason would be running to fill one of the two assembly seats in the 33rd district, one of which is held by Ruben Ramos Jr. PolitickerNJ speculated that Ramos will be vacating his seat for a mayoral run. There is little doubt that if Mason or Russo are on any ticket many in Hoboken will not only vote against them but also actively work against the entire ticket. It may not cost Stack the election but it will certainly not help him as he wars against the other Hudson County bosses for control.   more ›

First Phase Of Renovation Complete At Legion Park

Mayor says the community will be asked to help with planning for the next phase.

The city presented the results of the first phase of renovations at Legion Park, near the corner of Willow Avenue and 13th Street, on Tuesday. Legion is one of three parks whose improvements were bid together to save money. The other two parks, Jackson Street Park and Jefferson Street Park, also recently reopened. Together, the renovations at all three parks cost $239,550. “We wanted to be sure we got it done with the other two parks that were done and before the summer,” said Mayor Dawn Zimmer.
