Uptown Parts of Park Avenue Closed Due to Potential Buidling Collapse

Construction up there could cause a building collapse.

The city has temporarily blocked off Park Avenue at 15th Street in Hoboken, according to an announcement. There may be more detours in that area, which could complicate your commute. See below for more details. From the city: Due to demolition work which was deemed to have the potential to collapse onto the roadway, Park Avenue between 15th Street and 16th Street has been closed on an emergency basis. Plan on alternate routes and provide extra travel time. The roadway may be reopened as early as 7 p.m. Friday. Demolition work will resume on Monday, November 19. During demolition, which may last for up to 2 weeks, the southbound lane of Park Avenue will be closed while the northbound lane will be open. Police officers will be stationed in …

GWB Traffic Nightmare Could Begin Friday, Last All Summer

State, Port Authority warn of "significant" eastbound delays because of Cross Bronx bridge repairs, urge drivers to use mass transit, and to expect bus delays into the city through Labor Day.

This summer could be remembered as a traffic hell by the millions of people who travel east over the George Washington Bridge thanks to the closure of a lane on the oft-congested Cross Bronx Expressway from this Friday through Labor Day. The lane closure will take place on the Alexander Hamilton Bridge, which spans the Harlem River and connects Manhattan to the Bronx. The bridge is already a chokepoint, as traffic from both levels of the GWB merge onto one roadway. Several other significant roadways feed into and out of the span, including the Harlem River Drive and Major Deegan Expressway. River Street Construction Postponed Until Next Week

Due to weather.

From the City:  Due to weather forecast for this week, construction along River Street originally expected to begin today has been postponed until the week of May 14. On or about Monday, May 14, 2012, construction is expected to begin on the milling and resurfacing of River Street from Hudson Place to Fourth Street. Due to the high traffic and pedestrian volume in this area, the work must be performed at night between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Boswell Engineering anticipates the milling and resurfacing work will take place Monday and Tuesday nights, weather permitting.
