But, worry not, still many more middle eastern food options available in town.
Ibby's falafel has closed its doors in Hoboken after less than a year. The falafel place on Washington Street, which opened in August 2011, only a block away from its cousin Mamoun's Falafel, is now boarded up. It had taken the owners about 15 years to come to Hoboken. In a story on Patch in September 2011, the owners said that they "felt that Hoboken needed us." With Ibby's out of the unofficial falafel wars, there are still plenty of options to get your hummus fix on Washington Street; Mamoun's, Pita Grill, the vegetarian only Maoz falafel and Hummus Bar.

New lights and traffic patterns will go into effect on Monday May 14.
From City Hall: Residents are advised that on Monday May 14, new traffic signals will be turned on at Newark Street and Monroe Street/Grove Street. The existing traffic signals at this location were retrofitted by Hudson County with new equipment, including a modernized controller, countdown pedestrian signals, and improved visibility vehicle and pedestrian crossing faces. The City of Hoboken coordinated with Hudson County engineering to improve signal coordination with adjacent intersections, reconfigure lane utilization to better manage turning movements, and address pedestrian crossing/safety concerns at this location. Hudson County Engineering prepared the plans and implemented the improvements as part of its annual roadway …

Police blotter.
After three years of living together, two roommates in Hoboken may have to think about moving out. According to a police report, a 31-year-old Hoboken resident reported her roommate, claiming that her roommate has been stealing from her since September 2011. The victim is claiming that her roommate, with whom she shares a two bedroom, two bathroom apartment on uptown Madison St., has been stealing items from her room and selling them back to department stores, police said. An altercation between the two women took place last week, police said. No arrests were made.
Jubilation, but no arrests.
Eli can be proud of his hometown. No arrests were made in Hoboken on Super Bowl Sunday, police said. Unusual for even a regular—football free—weekend, there were few fights and altercations. The fights that were reported took place on Saturday night, but didn't result in any arrests. Police said that Super Bowl Sunday could be a barometer for March 3, Hoboken's St. Patrick's Day (or, this year, Leprecon). But it's still unclear what will happen on that day, and how many house parties will be thrown, even though the parade has been canceled.

About Town covers Hoboken events. Send an invitation to alanskontra@hotmail.com.
The Super Bowl! The one with Roman numbers nobody knows! The battle between the New England Patriots and the New York Giants! About Town thought carefully about where we would watch the game, and we chose... the Chandelier Room. Unorthodox, yes. Friends wondered why not a sports bar. But we had reasons. The Chandelier Room has lounge furniture rather than hard bar stools. Probably interesting people would be there, like high rollers with wild prop bets like ten grand on which team would win the coin toss. About Town knew the Chandelier Room wouldn't admit more people than necessary. We wanted to avoid being butt-to-butt with three hundred meatheads and hear talk like, “What's up bro, you comin' to Leprecon bro, yeah bro.” Instead the most…

Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) appeared before a supportive crowd of press and locals at City Hall Friday.
U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg announced the Susan G. Komen's Foundation decision to restore funding to Planned Parenthood for breast cancer screenings, after having announced last week that it would end its relationship with the organization due to its being under investigation in front of Hoboken City Hall on Friday afternoon. Last week, Lautenberg lead a group of 26 Senators in a letter calling on the Komen Foundation to reconsider its decision to stop funding cancer screenings at Planned Parenthood. In the letter, the Senators urged the Komen foundation to reconsider their decision on the grounds that "this troubling decision threatens to reduce access to necessary, life saving services.... it would be tragic if any woman—let alone …
