"A city that's a good place to raise children is generally just a good place, period," the story stated, which is why the population has seen a growth of 17,000 people in …

A water main break disrupted water service on downtown Willow Avenue on Friday night.
A water main break on Thursday night disrupted water service on downtown Willow Avenue on Friday morning, according to officials on the scene. The break is the sixth one in about a week, following a major water main break last Thursday, when construction workers hit a 30-inch main in uptown Hoboken. Residents took to Twitter on Friday morning, complaining about the amount of water main breaks. "This is getting to be absolutely absurd. @CityofHoboken what are you doing about this to prevent it from happenning again?" wrote Jimmy DaSilva on Friday morning. "No running water at 1st & Willow this morning. Is there an ETA on when it will be back?" tweeted Lauren Pavlick. The main break comes two days after Mayor Dawn Zimmer announced she is …

Fire officials said the cause may be related to "careless cooking" on the stove.
An early morning kitchen fire in an apartment on Washington Street Tuesday put several residents on the street in their pajamas and closed traffic between 8th and 9th Streets for about an hour. Battalion Chief John Cunning confirmed the fire occurred in a second floor unit at 817 Washington Street, possibly related to "careless cooking" on the stove. A third floor resident, who declined to give her name, told Patch she woke up around 7:45 a.m. to what smelled like wood burning. She could also hear the loud buzzing of her building's smoke alarm system. "I opened my door slowly and saw smoke there and decided to come out," she said. The utility disputes a claim that projects will substantially increase bills for residential and industrial customers.
Public Service Electric & Gas is facing mounting opposition to its plan to spend nearly $4 billion to harden its power grid to prevent widespread outages during major storms. In a letter sent late yesterday afternoon to the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, five of the state’s most prominent lobbying organizations urged the agency to reject out of hand or delay indefinitely PSE&G’s proposal, submitted to the agency in February. They said it would spike utility bills for both residential and industrial customers. Do you support PSE&G's plan? Click here to take part in a Patch readers' poll and make your voice heard. The concerns raised by the groups underscore how difficult it will be for the agency and the state’s utilities to …
