Yankees Help Bring New Rival for Red Bulls

New York Yankees and Manchester City have teamed up to bring a new professional soccer team to NYC by 2015.

The New York Red Bulls, who call Harrison their home, will not be the only face of professional footy in the metropolitan area for much longer. New York City is planning to kick the ball around in the MLS come the spring of 2015. Major League Soccer Commissioner Dan Garber announced the birth of the newest franchise in the MLS: the New York City Football Club. The new club will be owned by 2012 Barclay’s Premier League champions Manchester City and the 27 time World Series champion New York Yankees. “This opportunity is huge for us and huge for the city. We will work to deliver good, beautiful football to the fans in New York,” said Manchester City CEO Ferran Soriano. “We are very happy and honored to have the Yankees as partners.” Yankees…

James, Why belittle another sport (which I dislike, by the way) in order to make your point? And all my point was that the attempt to market MLS as "major league," given the premiere leagues already in places--a number in Europe--was, to me, a waste of time. New York Yankee CC Sabathia Cleans Up Hoboken Boys & Girls Club

Sabathia stopped by the club on Saturday to paint and clean with a group of volunteers.

The scene at the Boys & Girls Club on Saturday was quite different from the week before. All because of a few special volunteers. New York Yankee CC Sabathia — together with his wife Amber, his son CC Sabathia III and other friends — helped the Hoboken Boys & Girls club re-paint its first floor cafeteria. Sabathia’s good friend and former New York Giant Tiki Barber, also stopped by to survey the damage. “I grew up in a Boys & Girls Club.” Sabathia, who is a New Jersey resident, said on Saturday. “This is the first place I wanted to come.
