Ice Skating With Hoboken Toddlers

Winter means ice skating for Kathy Zucker; after a few false starts she figured out the best places to go to introduce her toddlers to the wonders of the ice.

The weather has been so unseasonably mild this fall that it's hard to believe winter is approaching. However, all the outdoor lights twinkling at dusk plus the holiday decorations and Macy's window displays seal the deal. It's time to break out the velvet tracksuits and head to the skating rink. My four-year-old daughter has been begging to go ice skating ever since her best friend went skating a month ago at Rockefeller Center. We took the kids skating last winter at the Bryant Park Pond, and it was an expensive, crowded exercise with incredibly long lines. My younger child was too small to fit into the smallest skates (size ten) and was justifiably upset about being left rinkside during the skating excursion (read: hour-long tantrum). …

A Hoboken Stroller Saga

Kathy Zucker tested out all the major stroller brands and wound up using a Phil and Teds Vibe as her primary stroller for walking around Hoboken.

In a walking town like Hoboken, every mom is passionate about her stroller. Bugaboos, City Mini tandems, Phil and Teds, umbrella strollers, there is a huge variety of choices out there, and not a lot of room for trial and error. You can't return a stroller to the store once you've used it, so there is a constant flow of strollers for sale on a local online moms group. I own three strollers, but the mainstay of our household is our Phil and Teds Vibe with doubles kit. I had a stroller tire blowout last week. The rear tire treads were worn down to their threads, which led to a serious puncture in the left one, probably caused by broken glass on a Hoboken sidewalk.
