Rebuild Hoboken Gears Up for Star Studded Fundraiser

A gala will be held on February 2.

Rebuild Hoboken, the city's relief fund, is currently in the process of organizing its biggest event to date. After receiving a $250,000 donation last week from Haven Savings Bank, the committee is now in the midst of preparing a star studded event at the W Hotel on February 2. The Manzo Brothers — Hobokenites Albie and Chris — told The Dish that they will be present at the event, and may show up with more family members. According to Jackie Burton, who is on the Rebuild Hoboken committee, said the organizers are currently "reviewing teams, traffic flow, décor, required staff numbers and starting a list of what celebrities could be approached to attend." Hobokenites can attend the event, tickets will be available at multiple price points. …

Talk to Mike Russo. First, he is similarly situated, and given that he paid $1 for his property, the damage is likely substantially in excess of his purchase price. Second, he promised to give the money he would have spent on christmas cards to help statewide victims. Not sure how much cheaper a robo-call to folks like me outside of his district was then sending a card.   more ›

Food, Music and Beer on the Pier

There's a new bar on Pier 13; plus, the food trucks are back.

The piers of Hoboken that once housed shipping and industry now host a new beer garden. Pier 13, an outdoor bar and event space off Sinatra Drive near 13th Street, held its inaugural bash Wednesday to celebrate the 4th of July. Several hundred people passed through during the day, and many stayed to watch the Macy's fireworks show at night. Overall the space covers the entire length of the privately owned pier, with room for food trucks, a boathouse, a beer truck and lawn extending into the Hudson River. Darren Conway and Rebecca Tarantino of the Chandelier Room nightclub at the W Hotel organized Pier 13 along with the Barry family, who own the Applied Development Company that built the hotel and several dozen residential buildings in …

If anyone can help track this one down -- there was a singer-guitarist on a Tuesday or Wednesday evening back in August at Pier 13. Very mellow, good selection. Trying to line up music for a company function. Any idea who that was? Thanks   more ›

From Oct 9 to Oct 13 in the W Hotel.

Local fashionistas better get ready. On Oct. 9, Hoboken will be the official home of the second annual New Jersey Fashion Week, which will be held in the W Hotel. On Tuesday afternoon, Mayor Dawn Zimmer and NJ Fashion Week founder Donella Tilery announced the event at the Chandelier Room, together with designers, hair stylists and local celebrities. Fashion designers were present at the Chandelier Room on Tuesday, as well as celebrities such as Food Network star and Hobokenite Chris Nirschel and boxing champ Eric Kelly. One of the designers who will be introducing a line during fashion week is 13-year-old Jazmin Brown, from Garfield, who started modeling at age seven. Eric Altemari, who was born and raised in Hoboken, is in charge of the …

W Hotel Celebrates Birthday

The W Hotel Hoboken celebrated it's first birthday over the weekend with champagne, music and spa goodies for the community.

On Saturday night, Hoboken's W Hotel celebrated its first birthday in style, with live jazz music, beauty treatments courtesy of Bliss Spa and—of course—free-flowing champagne. It was only March 27 of last year that W Hoboken opened its doors with a lavish debut party, featuring celebrity guests like Shannen Doherty and Hoboken native Joe Pantoliano, with a musical performance by Jamie Foxx. Anna MacDiarmid, General Manager of the W Hoboken, reflected on what attracted W Hotels to Hoboken in the first place. "The young vibrant population made it an easy decision to base a W Hotel here," she said, "as well as the proximity to Manhattan, which provides the unbeatable views of the world's most famous skyline."  Saturday's event featured live …

Hoboken Glams Up For Fashion Week

The W Hotel debuts its new jewelry collection at a Fashion Week party in Hoboken

While the world's most innovative designers are sending their creations to the catwalks in Bryant Park for New York Fashion Week, here in Hoboken, the W Hotel is showing off styles of its own. On Wednesday night, the W threw a small event at its Living Room bar to celebrate the release of its new jewelry line, Global Glam, to be sold at The W Store. The event also partnered with New York City based cosmetic company Purple Lab to give out free makeovers from their new line of cosmetics. The collection of baubles—only the second that W Hotel has ventured—is based on their property locations in Hollywood, Barcelona and downtown New York City, and created by top-notch designers, such as Suzanna Dai, Dannijo and Kendra Scott. "It's very fashion…
