The City Council addresses Hoboken’s affordable housing and infrastructure needs on Wednesday night. A line of people stood in line on Saturday morning to get their tickets for the July 26 show. Council members expressed concern that this would set a bad precedent. The item had been on the agenda of previous council meetings. An appellate court ruled that Garcia is eligible to run for assembly after all. In total, the state awarded $1.25 million to school districts that were impacted by the hurricane. What you missed in Hoboken this week.
Steve Cappiello, who served three terms as mayor, served on the council and worked as a sargeant for the Hoboken Police Department, died on Thursday. He was 89. Ellen Dowling passed the finish line only minutes before two bombs went off on Monday at the Boston Marathon. While the city confirmed the opening of the field in late April, it'll be delayed by at least a month. The city council again tabled an ordinance to amend the rules and regulations governing taxis in Hoboken. After months of discussion, the district is switching to a junior-senior high school model. Damage was done to war memorials in two of Hoboken's public parks. From mutz to canoli, we have it all. The fire that killed a 62-year-old woman was electrical. The money has been allocated to different projects around town. The city has applied for more funds, separately from this. A 21-year-old Union City woman was injured on Wednesday. Five Hoboken residents are claiming it's a conflict of interest for Carmelo Garcia to run for state assembly. A hearing ahs been scheduled for next week to decide the matter. While improved, SAT scores are still below state average. The center is open daily and offers help to Hobokenites who are still recovering from Hurricane Sandy. Three were arrested in Hoboken after police searched an apartment in the Hoboken Housing Authority. A contract between United Water and the city allows for a capped amount of $350,000 a year to be invested in Hoboken's water infrastructure. The mayor announced this week she is looking for a way out of the contract. A 66-year-old woman told police she was robbed. Mayor Dawn Zimmer on Thursday night said she wants to create a flood-resistant Hoboken. A water main break disrupted water service on downtown Willow Avenue on Friday night. Hobokenite Jean Callan died after a fire in her apartment last weekend. She was 62. Much of Hoboken was without water and with low water pressure on Thursday after a big water main was hit by construction uptown. Dechen Kyiden, 23, was sentenced to three years in jail for aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child after a compromise was reached on Thursday. A new tell-all book by Paul Anka reveals some of Ol' Blue Eyes' dirty secrets. Eleven fire fighters were promoted this week. Stephen Foley III, a Hoboken resident, was arrested at the airport after claiming he had a bomb with him. Police Chief Anthony Falco is suing Mayor Dawn Zimmer, claiming the city has encroached upon his authority as chief. Patrick Ricciardi, the former IT director who was arrested, plead guilty to illegally downloading the mayor's emails, in federal court this week. A 4-4 stalemate prevented the city council from passing $500,000 in bonds to create a permanent memorial on Pier A Park. Zimmer addressed the community in an open letter this week.
