Cucharamama Named Top 25 Restaurant in NJ

Cucharamama, an artisanal Latin restaurant owned by award-winning chef and author Maricel Presilla, has been named one of New Jersey's Top 25 Restaurants of 2013 by New Jersey Monthly magazine.

Located on the corner of 3rd and Clinton streets since 2004, Cucharamama offers a range of authentic South American dishes, wine and cocktails native to countries that span the continent.

For Presilla, who holds the distinction of being the first Latin American woman invited to serve as a guest chef of the White House, the designation marks the latest high in what has been an eventful year for the Cuban-born culinary historian.

Her latest book, Gran Cocina Latino, was named Cookbook of the Year by the James Beard Foundation, just months after her Latin food emporium, Ultramarinos, and both of her Hoboken restaurants — Cucharamama and its nearby Cuban predecessor, Zafra — were flooded out by Superstorm Sandy.

All three have since recovered and Cucharamama is once again open for dinner six days a week, Monday through Saturday, and for brunch on Sunday.
