Housing Authority Bike Rodeo Celebrates Fatherhood, Exercise

The Hoboken Housing Authority's Second Annual Bike Rodeo Tour of the city's riverfront will be held Saturday morning.

Fathers and their children ages 7 to 13 are invited to ride in the Hoboken Housing Authority's annual Father’s Day Bike Rodeo on Saturday to celebrate fatherhood, exercise and the history of the Mile Square City.

The day will begin with a bike safety workshop at 10 a.m. at Connors School, followed by a tour of Hoboken's riverfront led by Bike Hoboken's Brian Wagner and a history of the city provided by the Hoboken Historical Museum.

Lunch, courtesy of the Jubilee Center, will be served following the tour at Christopher Columbus Gardens in the Third Ward.

The federal Housing and Urban Development agency encourages housing authorities across the country to host bike rodeos to promote the importance of having a father figure in children's lives, HHA executive director Carmelo Garcia said. The Hoboken Housing Authority held its first bike rodeo last year.

The first 25 children who registered for this year's rodeo will receive their own bike.
