Ricciardi Sentencing, Fourth of July Festivities This Week in Hoboken

Let us help you plan your week

This week opens Monday morning with the sentencing of former Hoboken IT official Patrick Ricciardi, who pleaded guilty in March to intercepting emails intended for the mayor and two of her top lieutenants and passing them on to other current and former city employees.

Ricciardi, who was charged in November 2011, admitted he read and forwarded the mayor's email communication in order to spy on her and her assistants, according to court testimony.

His former assistant, Jonathan Cummins, whose own email hacking charges were dismissed in May, testified that Fire Chief Richard Blohm and former public safety director Angel Alicea were the employees who received copies of the intercepted emails.

Later in the day Monday, the historic Yankee Ferry, which has called Hoboken home for the past nine years, will set sail for its new location across the Hudson River on the banks of Red Hook, Brooklyn.

The Hoboken community is invited to see the early 20th century ferry off at 5 p.m. on the 12th Street Pier.

On Thursday, the city is expecting tens of thousands of guests to converge on Hoboken to watch the Macy’s Fourth of July fireworks display over the Hudson River.
The show has an official start time of 9 p.m., but usually gets started about 25 minutes later than that. Heavy traffic and extensive delays are expected. While most of the city's outdoor summer series events — Family Fun Nights (Tuesdays),  Movies Under the Stars (Wednesdays) and Concerts in the Park (Thursdays) — are on hiatus this week, Mile Square Theatre's production of Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night," which opened last week, will continue.

Free productions of "Twelfth Night" are scheduled for Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights at 8 p.m. in Sinatra Park, at the corner of 4th Street and Sinatra Park Drive.
